Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I did a glucose test last week, and the results were very high. I got a blood test done and want to discuss the results. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

I welcome you to icliniq.com with a loving heart and confidence that I will be able to help you with your medical issues better.

I have gone through your laboratory reports (attachments removed to protect patient identity), and they suggest that you have diabetes and very high HBA1C (glycated hemoglobin), cholesterol, and triglycerides, and it is so high that it has started to affect your kidney function. I am surprised that you are not taking any medications.

I suggest starting the following medications.

1.Tablet - Metformin 500 mg thrice a day.

2. Tablet - Diamicron MR (Gliclazide 30 mg) 30 mg once a day. (I recommend having it at lunchtime).

3. Tablet - Perindopril (anti-hypertensive) 5 mg once a day. (This is for protecting your kidneys).

4. Tablet - Simvastatin (Statins) 30 mg at bedtime. Consult your doctor and take the medicines accordingly.

5. Stop all sweet drinks or food at once.

6. Eat only whole wheat, vegetables, and a fibrous diet.

7. Take time to recover, then start walking 30 minutes daily.

8. I recommend drinking eight to ten glasses of water daily.

Initially, you might feel a bit dizzy after starting the medicines (for the first two weeks only), as your body is used to high blood sugar levels, and it will feel that the new well-controlled blood sugar level is low and you will get symptoms of hypoglycemia (a condition where the blood sugar levels are too low). Do not worry - just check your blood sugar. If it is (below 100 mg/dl), then eat something sweet like half a teaspoon of honey or your meal for that time. The tablet Metformin can be a bit tough on your stomach and can cause stomach upset. Do not stop it anyway; just wait for the symptoms to pass. The symptoms will go away in a month or so.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please let me know if you have further queries.

Thank you.
