How is a recurring boil near the anus treated?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had a boil near my anus for the past two years. Kindly advise.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

From what I can see, it appears to be an abscess. The fact that it is recurring means that it has never adequately been dealt with. I would like you to answer a few questions before we go forward. Do you suffer from a medical illness, like diabetes? Does this swelling burst open, or does it subside without pus drainage? If so, how long does it take to heal?

As far as treatment is concerned, do the following:

For your wound care and pain relief, apply ointment Bactroban (Mupirocin) to the affected area three times a day after gentle cleaning to prevent infection. Take Tablet Combiflam only when needed for pain, preferably after food. Use tablet Ciplox (Ciprofloxacin) 500 mg twice daily for five days to treat or prevent infection and complete the full course even if you feel better. Additionally, take tablet Pan 40 (Pantoprazole) once daily, about 30 minutes before breakfast, for five days to protect your stomach while using painkillers and antibiotics.

I hope this helps.

Kindly revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.
