Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have been experiencing some unexplained bruising for a few weeks. Also, last week I had a few pin point red dots on the side of my back which went away in about two days. This past week I discovered some more of the cluster of red dots on the back of my thigh, which turned into a big bruise the following day. Also, today I woke up with the red dots on the back of my other thigh. I had a CBC done today, but is this something I should be concerned about? I am not having any other symptoms. Would I be more symptomatic if I had a blood cancer?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your symptoms are not suggestive of any blood cancer or other form of cancer. For repeated bruise and attached photo of lesion (attachment removed to protect patient identity) you have to investigate as follows: Liver profile reports to check liver pathology. CBC to rule out low platelet count, if present. PT, APTT to rule out coagulation problem if present. BT bleeding time testing to rule out vessel problem if present.

After checking all these reports further work up can be planned. Meanwhile you can be prescribed oral Vitamin C tablet 500 mg BD for seven days. Topical Vitamin K cream application also can be helpful. You can consult nearby physician for detailed evaluation and discuss all these.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Kindly have a look at the attached image.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, I have seen your attached photo of the lesion (attachment removed to protect patient identity). It seems to be petechial hemorrhage like lesion. For that, oral vitamin C is beneficial and I suggest work up with above-mentioned investigations. You can revert back with reports once done. You can discuss all these with your treating physician.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I just received my CBC results. WBC- 4,500, RBC- 5.00, platelet count- 231. Are these all in the normal range?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have read your attached question. Your mentioned CBC value is within range. The platelet count is also within range. Hence, we can exclude thrombocytopenia, low platelet count as a causative factor. So, thrombocytopenia is not the cause. All mentioned values are within range.
