Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 20 year old female. I have had two sexual partners. The second one is my current boyfriend. I used to shave my pubic hair all the time but started getting razor bumps from it. I decided to stop and let the hair grow out fully before attempting to shave it again. I noticed the other day that I have a few bumps on my labia, some painful. I am not sure what they are and thought not shaving would stop bumps from forming. I have gotten painful bumps on my pubic area in the past when I shave and do not shave that seem to come out of nowhere. I have also noticed a smell from my vagina during the day and even after I take a shower the smell is still there. Is it because of me not shaving for months? Where do you think the bumps come from? My last question is do you think I have an STD?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

With your description, I can list a few possibilities for the painful bumps over the pubic region:

  1. Folliculitis - a bacterial infection of hair follicles.
  2. Pseudofolliculitis - ingrown hair causing inflammation.
  3. Herpes genitalis - viral STD, painful blisters in groups with surrounding redness.
  4. Molluscum with secondary bacterial infections.
  5. Infected wart.

Do you have any discharge from the vagina? Do you have itching as well? Since when did you notice this? Please mention the duration in days.

I am afraid I cannot make any diagnosis or rule out STDs here without seeing your clinical picture. Kindly attach your clinical picture along with your query so that it is convenient for me to comment on your condition and give you appropriate suggestions.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
