The skin of my toes are harder, and I have pain in my toes. What could be the cause?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 28-year-old person. I have pain in my left leg first toe, and also it feels hard in that area for the past three months. I do not have any health issues. What could be the cause? Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Based on the look of your leg (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity), I assume you have a condition called "Hard Corn" or "Callus." A potential reason for the formation of a corn or callus could be tight-fitting footwear that you have been wearing for about three to four months now (based on history provided) or any injury or hit to the foot while walking or working or any infection due to water or clothing. I suggest you put your foot in warm water mixed with salt for five to ten minutes twice a day for a week. After two to three days of this process, apply Soframycin cream (Framycetin) after properly drying the foot for a week. You will gradually notice softening of the skin, peeling-off of the hard layer of skin, and new skin formation. You can also put cotton padding while wearing footwear and take extra precautions for leg hygiene. Please feel free to reach out for further information. Thanks and regards.
