Can circumcision cure bleeding from the penis tip during sex?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My husband and I had intercourse for the first time, and during this, the tip of his penis began to bleed. The bleeding stopped the next day, but the pain continued. Today, he still feels some slight pain and is worried that pulling back the foreskin might cause the bleeding to start again. He is also concerned that this might happen again in the future. Is circumcision necessary at this point? Are there any ointments or creams that could help stop the bleeding if he engages in intercourse again?

Please advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Based on what you have described, it is likely that your husband is experiencing a frenular tear related to intercourse. Unfortunately, no ointment can cure or prevent the recurrence of this issue. Even a minor procedure like frenuloplasty may still be associated with a risk of recurrence. Ideally, circumcision along with six to eight weeks of abstinence would be the most effective treatment option. I recommend visiting a urologist for further management.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
