Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 4-year-old daughter is suffering from a high fever for the last two days. She is feeling cold and shivering. We are giving her 5 ml of Panadol every six hours. Her fever gets down in duration but again starts. She is not having stomachache, or lose motion but only fever. Please suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

She has viral rhinitis, also called the common cold. It is harmless and will go by itself. I suggest her these medicines:

  1. Syrup Paracetamol 250 mg, 5 ml three times a day for five days.
  2. Syrup Maxtra (Chlorpheniramine maleate and Phenylephrine) 5 ml three times a day for five days.
  3. Hot water fomentation with Karvol capsules which is to be cut and put in water, do not eat, three times a day for five days.

This viral infection takes three to five days to heal, so stay calm and give time for the body to recover. Till that time the fever will remain. Do not worry. The cold will take seven to ten days to slowly improve. It may go earlier also but depends on the immunity of the child. If you have any questions, feel free to get back to me.

Thank you for consulting me.
