Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 23 years old, and I took an I-pill after having unprotected sex within 48 hours. I took the pill a month back; it was five days after I had completed my periods for that month. After taking the pill on the fifth day, I had the flow similar to my periods for five days. But I am worried that I have not got my periods this month yet and am still waiting for periods till date. Please tell me what is happening with my menstrual cycle. I am worried and need your help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

As you have taken emergency pill within 72 hours of intercourse, there is no chance of pregnancy. So, relax and do not worry. Also, you say that you had withdrawal bleeding after taking the pill. So, you can be double sure that there is no chance of pregnancy. The delay could be because of hormonal changes due to the pill you have taken. However, if you have a doubt then get yourself checked by a gynecologist and get a pelvic scan done to rule out the exact cause.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

When can I expect my periods? Will I face any irregularity in my menstrual cycle because of this?

Answered by Dr. Neha Rathod

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

No, you will not experience irregular periods. But, it will take a cycle or two to get your cycles back to normal. You should be getting your periods around second to third week of this month. So relax and do not worry. However, if you have a doubt then get back to me.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
