Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a breastfeeding mother of a 1.2-year-old baby. Three months back, I took I-pill. I want to know what is the necessity of taking I-pill as I do not want pregnancy.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

A lactating or a breastfeeding mother is highly fertile due to disturbing hormones and the cycles. Periods are also not regular post-delivery. It is advised to always use a precaution for sexual intercourse until you breastfeed your child as ovulation is not expected to occur at a particular time of the cycle, usually in a non-breastfeeding woman with regular menses. Irregular menses or absence of menses during breastfeeding or post-delivery leads to irregular ovulation so that we can ascertain the correct timing of ovulation. Hence it is suggested to be very cautious while having sex as there are chances to get pregnant even when you have menses during the breastfeeding period. So you need to take emergency precautions to prevent conception and pregnancy, and emergency precautions are not be used on a regular basis as they may not have favorable consequences later. So better is to take barrier contraception or consult some gynecologist for proper hormonal pills to be taken during this period to prevent pregnancy.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
