How to effectively manage costochondritis?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 22-year-old male. For the past two days, I have been experiencing persistent pain on the left side of my chest. I had a similar experience before, but for the last two days, I have been continuously feeling pain while breathing. Please suggest a medication.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your diagnosis is costochondritis, which is a localized inflammation of the intercostal muscles. I suggest the following medications: Take a tablet of Azithromycin 500 mg once a day for six days, a combination of tablet Aceclofenac and Paracetamol twice a day for three days, and a tablet Ranitidine once a day in the morning. Additionally, apply pain relieving gel locally. Please consult your specialist doctor to discuss this treatment plan and start taking the medications with their consent. Also, please do a chest X-ray in the PA (posterior-anterior) view and review the results.

Thanks and regards.
