What could cause recurrent cough?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am an 18-year-old female with a height of 5 feet and weigh 103 lbs. I have had a cough on and off for many weeks now. When I do have it, it is usually accompanied by a sore throat, and I produce phlegm that is usually of green color. I also currently have a small lump towards the bottom of my tongue, which is beneath the skin. I was wondering what that could be and how to get rid of it. I have been to the doctor previously and received medication for the cough, and it went away, but it just keeps returning. Could you give any advice on boosting the immune system if that would prevent my body from being prone to infection? Also, I have had conjunctivitis and countless ulcers, and cold sores. I take Levest 150/30 mcg, a contraceptive pill now.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. You mentioned that the cough had been on and off and is not subsiding. This can be due to a compromised immune system and taking antibiotics without completing the course. I suggest you start an antibiotic course and finish it. A combination of Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid should be started. It would be better if you can send pictures of your tongue for my understanding. For boosting your immune system, you need to have good rest and nutritive food. You may take protein supplements and vitamin supplements also. I hope this helps you.

Thanks and regards.
