Does a faint line on a UPT kit confirm pregnancy?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 14 days late for my periods. I did a UPT and got a faint line. I did four to five UPT tests. Last week I visited the doctor and did an ultrasound but did not get anything in the ultrasound. The beta hCG report showed less than 5 Miu/ml. Today also I checked and got a faint line. I have some symptoms of pregnancy. Also, last week I got a dark black clot while passing urine but there was no bleeding, spotting, or cramps till now. I want to know if everything is fine. I will revisit the hospital too later this week. Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern. Even if you are pregnant the beta hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) level should be more than 1500 to be seen on transvaginal sonography. You will have to repeat your beta hCG test after exactly 48 hours of the last beta hCG test from the same laboratory. It will help us to know if it is an intrauterine or extrauterine pregnancy. It could just be delayed conception but there are chances of ectopic pregnancy too. I would advise you to follow up with your local gynecologist as close monitoring may be required.

I hope this has helped you.

Thank you.
