Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have depression, and it is getting worse. I do not want to live anymore. I just want to go to sleep and not wake up. I do not feel I will be a happy person ever. I can not live like this anymore. I am currently on Duloxetine medication.
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Your words are reflecting your distressed mental state, and it is obvious that you need more support to get over this difficult period.
How long have your depression symptoms been getting worse? Is anything stressful happening recently? Do your family and friends know the extent and severity of your depressive symptoms?
Cognitive distortions related to depression can make you isolate yourself. It will help you to open up and have an honest discussion with a trusted family member or friend. As you are reporting thoughts of not wanting to live anymore, it is important to reach out and get professional support. Contact your psychiatrist for an early review. If you are not able to cope, contact the crisis team or go to the nearest ED (emergency department).
How long have you been on Duloxetine? The dose may need to be optimized. If not effective, the doctor will consider switching to another antidepressant. Also, counseling and psychological therapy will be helpful to manage depressive cognitions and develop better coping strategies.
Always remember depression will get better with time and appropriate support. Look after yourself by eating healthily, sleep adequately, and try to do exercise at least for 20 minutes daily.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
