Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
My father is checking his blood sugar level regularly. He has a blood sugar of 110 to 120 mg/dL in the morning and 240 to 260 mg/dL in the evening. It was checked after two to two and half an hour after taking food during lunch. He is taking Tendia M forte one tablet once a day at night, Xigdueo 10/1000 mg one tablet once a day in the morning, and Diamicron MR 30 mg after lunch. Please suggest. Why does his sugar level seem to be high in the evening?

Patient's Query
Thank you doctor,
He is checking his sugar levels for a week. He has a sugar level above 200 mg/dL in the evening. He takes egg and brown bread during breakfast, and two chapatis with nonvegetarian food in lunch. He takes a sandwich or vermicelli with high tea during dinner. He takes several other medications for cholesterol, blood pressure, and anxiety. Everything is under control.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Thanks for sharing the reports and giving the details regarding your father's diet. I am not sure whether you have discussed about his diet with your doctor in addition to medications. His diet pattern and content requires modifications. Bread either brown or white can cause a sudden rise in blood sugar levels and they are called high glycemic index foods. It has to be avoided by diabetic patients. Even the frequency of nonvegetarian food should be avoided. He can take nonvegetarian food once a week. Again he can have a snack around 5 'o clock instead of giving a big gap till dinner. Even taking a sandwich during dinner should be avoided. He has a high sugar level in the evening due to his diet content and pattern. Kindly visit your doctor to modify the diet soon. A dietician can help you a lot. By following a proper diet with medications, blood sugar levels can be controlled. It is possible to reduce medications taken for diabetes if the blood sugar comes under control. Diabetes is a lifestyle disease. Lifestyle changes have to be followed along with medications. So you need to consult the doctor soon.
