Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am a 48-year-old male. I have a problem with not knowing how to stop overthinking everything. When I look at something, my brain automatically starts coming up with solutions, or I start coming up with different or better ways to do the same project. I am always trying to find better ways to do things. It is consuming a lot of my time sometimes. About ten months ago, my doctor put me on amphetamines because I finally wanted to take care of my problem. I have always had trouble getting things done because my thoughts are all over the place. This medicine has really given me clarity and helped me focus (or else I would not be able to finish this message), but I still look at the simplest things and start making plans and drawings in my head to make or fix things. A few years ago, I met with a doctor almost every day for about two weeks. He told me he did not want to put me on medication because it would change what makes me great and unique at my job, and my uniqueness is what has helped me get so far at such a young age (back then). I do not know what he would have given me to help me slow down, but I am wondering what can be the solution. Now that I have my own business, I do not need to keep my mind so busy all the time. It is almost exhausting. Please give me suggestions to get rid of my problem.Thanking You.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I thoroughly read your query and understand your concern. Do not worry. As explained in the query, you are excessively thinking about the same thing, and and thinking about something more effectively is good quality, but if it is more than required, then it may be a problem. This type of thinking can be a part of Anankastic personality traits (preoccupation with orderliness), it can be a part of ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), the most common neurodevelopmental disorder of childhood, which often lasts into adulthood, or it can be due to confusion. I think we need to talk in detail regarding your problem so that I can reach to a conclusive diagnosis, and a proper diagnosis can guide us to effective treatment. I would be happy to help you.
Regards.
