Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 10 months old baby is crying continuously without sleeping. She is not drinking milk and is so irritated. When we checked her ear, we notice yellowish liquid crystals in the right ear. How to treat her? Please help me.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. It is possible that your baby could be suffering from an ear infection. The yellowish-brownish discharge collection in her right ear could mean that her eardrum had ruptured and fluid or pus is flowing out and collecting in the ear canal.

Ideally, this should be removed and cleaned with an ear curette by your pediatrician so he/she can look inside your baby's ear with an otoscope to get a better view of what is going on inside his ear. Once this is done, your doctor can decide which treatment is most effective, an antibiotic ear drops, an oral antibiotic, or a combination of both.

In the meantime, you may give your baby Ibuprofen for pain (follow the dosing guidelines in the bottle based on his weight) every six hours as needed, with some food.

I hope this helps.
