Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 6-month pregnant mother who developed a fungal ear infection due to the insertion of cotton buds. After visiting my gynecologist, I was referred to an ENT specialist who diagnosed me with 50 percent hearing loss due to nerve damage. The specialist recommended treating it with steroids injected into the ear, but I am hesitant. Currently, I am taking tablet Allerone M, tablet Paracetamol 500, and using Clotrimazole AC ear drops. I would like to know if an ear wound can cause temporary hearing loss and if there are any alternative solutions or treatments available. Kindly help. Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query. I understand that you are experiencing a 50 percent loss of hearing, which is attributed to nerve inflammation. The treatment option of steroid injection into the ear is considered one of the most effective approaches. Steroid injections into the ear can help reduce inflammation and promote healing of the affected nerve. It is believed to have a localized effect within the ear and does not get absorbed into the bloodstream, thereby minimizing the potential for systemic side effects. If you have any further queries or concerns, feel free to ask. I am here to help! I hope this answer helped you, Thank you.
