Why is my eczema spreading from my body to my face?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had eczema on my lower body, rising to the neck and spreading to the face and scalp. I suspect it may be some yeast infection, as I have seen improvement after using one percent Hydrocortisone and Betnovate cream. Kindly suggest your opinion to me.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I am experiencing all the above except pain. I would not say there is pain, and it is just a constant discomfort. It takes me hours to find a comfortable position, and my skin cannot bear to come into contact with even cotton material.

I saw a heat rash on my stomach and parts of my back, too. I have used coconut oil, aloe vera with tea tree, and a double-base emollient gel.

There is a lot of scaling from my neck to my scalp. It is on the side of my face, around my eyes, and on the top of my head.

I have also had a jock itch, I guess. Last week, I had a few days where I was busy reorganizing something at home, and I was sweating excessively for at least four days. After this, the overall condition became somewhat worse. Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

I understand how uncomfortable and frustrating this must be for you. I suppose it is eczematous dermatitis with psoriasis (meaning a person has skin inflammation that shows features of both eczema and psoriasis). To help your skin heal and reduce flare-ups, I would suggest the following plan.

Please apply emollient moisturizing cream three to four times a day for the next two months to keep your skin deeply moisturized. Right after bathing, while your skin is still slightly damp, apply liquid paraffin lotion for about 15 days to help lock in moisture. Consistent and frequent moisturizing is key to improving the skin barrier.

If your scalp is involved, use a Salicylic acid shampoo on alternate days for ten days, then continue twice weekly for the next six weeks to maintain control.

Try to include antioxidant-rich foods like fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet to support skin health from within. Also, avoid activities that cause excessive sweating, as sweat can irritate sensitive skin.

If a steroid cream has been prescribed, apply it at night for ten days only, as directed. Most importantly, try to avoid scratching or rubbing the affected areas, as this can worsen the inflammation and delay healing.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.
