Is a small white scar on the lower lip cancer?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have had a small white scar on the lower lip for seven months. It was not white at first. But now it just stays there and does not show any change.

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your problem is nasolabial dyssebacia (attachment removed to protect patient identity). It is a type of eczema secondary to mild pityrosporum yeast infection associated with an oily part of the face, with affected areas, mild scaling, and redness in a few individuals.

My suggestions:

  1. Cetaphil soap (Triclosan, sodium cocoyl isethionate, and stearic acid) for face wash, along with Lulifin cream (Luliconazole) once daily for 30 days.
  2. Apply to the affected areas even if the skin becomes normal after 30 days.
  3. It flares with stress and overthinking. It is not serious and curable.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reach out in case of further queries.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Do you think it is cancer?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It is not related to cancer. Common types of cancer related to the skin:

  1. Basal cell carcinoma.
  2. Squamous cell carcinoma.
  3. Blue nevus.
  4. Sebaceous naevus.

Your nasolabial dyssebacia does not fit any of the above-mentioned cutaneous carcinomas. It is a simple yeast infection that can be cured.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
