Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Can I get pregnant after taking unwanted 72 within 12 hours of unprotected sex during my fertile window? Does it matter if I had sex twice before taking the pill?

Thank you.

Hello,

Thank you for stopping by!

I am here to provide an expert opinion on your medical issues.

Unwanted 72 is a high dose of Progesterone hormone which is produced in your body in the second half of the period after ovulation. This pill suddenly increases the thickness of the inner lining of the uterus, making it unfavorable for a possible pregnancy to sit. As it is a single dose, it has no strength to stand on, so it falls off and you can get period or bleeding of the increased thickness within 7 to 10 days. The only chances of failure are if you are late in taking the pill or if you vomited out the pill or if you were already pregnant while taking the pill. If you have had sex any number of times before the single pill intake, the result is the same, you will not be pregnant. But if you have the pill after every sex, over many days, this can disturb your hormonal balance and your period's regularity. So it is not advisable to have the pill many times in the same cycle
