Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Do I have to get a hysterectomy if I have severe endometriosis and not debilitating pain? I am suspected of endometriosis. I have uncomfortable ovulation pain recently and started having pain in the left ovary. Pain goes down to the leg every now and then, and I also get pain in the tailbone when sitting. My left ovary does not have a lot of movement on transvaginal ultrasound, and I will have to have a lap soon. I want to know if I am at risk of losing my reproductive organs?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I appreciate the details you shared, but before making any comment, I request you to share your reports for my better assessment. Also, when is your lap appointment? If you have any other details, please share with me, like how many days you are having this problem? How many children you have. etc.? With the information presented by you, I think you need not panic and you will be fine soon.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I do not have the reports or ultrasound. They sent directly to a specialist. I am yet to see a specialist, but my GP and the person doing the ultrasound is suspicious of endo. I have been pregnant twice before when I was younger, which I terminated. I have no children and have been off the pill for two years and trying to get pregnant. I had always had random pains but felt ovulation pain when I came off the pill. I have recently had pains in my ovary and tailbone. The scan showed nothing but only normal cysts.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have spoken to a few colleagues and discussed the thing. Hysterectomy is an option when all other things fail to work. In your case, since you do not have any children now, it is a crucial decision for you. But since you do not have access to your reports, we are not sure what type and stage of endo is there if it is there. Merely by pain, we cannot go for a hysterectomy. From when were you on birth control pills? Did you and your partner undergo pre-pregnancy counseling? Did you start with Folic acid, multivitamins, etc., while you were trying to conceive? Do not worry, pain can be controlled through various medicines and other changes. However, it is better we go through the reports and a few other details and go for a hysterectomy only if everything else fails.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
