Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

A brown color dot along with a white color substance is floating in my left eye. What to do?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through what you have mentioned, these dots are called floaters in medical terminology. I can tell you that such a problem arises due to a cause mostly in the back portion of the eye (vitreous or retina). This requires a dilated retinal examination by an ophthalmologist. A single floater which has been present for at least 6 months to a year has no major implications and is nothing to be worried about. I advise you to see the ophthalmologist urgently in case of the multiple floaters or sensation of flashing lights or blurred vision in either eye. Floaters appeared after being hit in the eye, pain, redness in either eye. If you are a diabetic or on anticoagulant treatment or suffer from blood clotting or blood vessel or autoimmune diseases.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
