Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 22-year-old male. I have a frequent itching sensation on my skin without any rashes. I also suffer from a fungal infection near the genital area. I have noticed two lumps on my testicle and genital area, which have been very itchy. What could be the reason for these symptoms? What medications should I use for this? Kindly help. Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern. Kindly attach your clinical picture along with your query so that it will be convenient for me to comment on your condition and suggest proper treatment. I cannot prescribe any specific medicine here without seeing your clinical picture (Consult a specialist doctor, talk with them, and take medications with their consent.). You can take the tablet Teczine (Levocetirizine) 5 mg at night after food for one week for itching. Use Clotrimazole antifungal dusting powder for skin folds, thigh folds, and armpits. However, I would like to mention a few crucial skin care tips to follow during fungal infections. Wear dry loose cotton clothes. Use inner cotton garments and make use of fans or air conditioners at night to keep the affected part well-ventilated. Take a bath twice daily. Always use lukewarm water and avoid using very hot water. Hot water favors fungal growth on the body. Always use a fresh dry towel to wipe off water from the body. Make sure skin folds are totally dry before wearing clothes. Use antifungal dusting powders for skin folds such as underarms, thigh folds, below breasts, and between the toes. Wash your clothes, towel, and bedspread in hot water and dry them in good sunlight. Eat healthy food, and keep your body weight ideal for your height because being overweight or underweight leads to reduced immunity, increasing the chances of acquiring a fungal infection. If you are diabetic, check your blood sugar level frequently and ensure your blood sugars are within the normal range because uncontrolled blood sugar is a risk factor for fungal infection. Ask if any of your family members have a similar fungal infection. If so, encourage them to take treatment. Check your pet animals for rashes. If there are any, take them to a veterinary doctor for treatment. Dogs and cats are also sources of infection. Always complete the entire course of medications prescribed by your dermatologist. Incomplete treatment results in the recurrence of fungal infection, which is more resistant to treatment. Do not scratch the affected area. Scratching makes the rash worse. Instead, ask your dermatologist to prescribe anti-itching medicine. Do not wear synthetic clothes or tight-fitting jeans that do not allow air to flow through them, and do not wear wet inner clothes. Also, do not wear inner while at home. Just allow air to flow freely through the affected part. Do not share your items, such as clothes, towels, soap, or comb, with your family members or friends. Do not use over-the-counter (OTC) medications for ringworm. Most of these OTC creams contain steroids, which give faster relief from itching, but they make the ringworm spread to a larger area and make the routine treatment insufficient. Do not use home remedies such as garlic paste to get rid of ringworm. This could burn your skin and leave a permanent scar. Thank you.
