Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My son is 21 years old. He suffers from indigestion and vomiting for the past one and a half months. It got started suddenly after eating foods from outside. I consulted a doctor and he did an endoscopy. He was diagnosed with erosive pan gastritis and prescribed Pan for one month. He feels better now but he has vomiting when he eats food from outside. How much time is taken to get healed from gastritis completely? What are the food restrictions to be followed? Is it normal to have vomiting in gastritis?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Vomiting in gastritis occurs due to infection. Avoid eating foods outside. It is good to eat homemade bland food. I suggest your son to take Gelusil (Aluminium hydroxide, Magnesium hydroxide and Simethicone) syrup two tablespoons daily after food for five days. Try to take light foods.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

He feels fine when he takes homemade food and the problem starts when he takes outside food. I want to ask you how much time it takes to have the healing of gastritis. Is it good to take milk, curd, and tea? What are the food items to be avoided?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It takes some time to get healed and a strict diet has to be followed. As the digestive system is weak, it is not good to eat food from outside until his digestion becomes good. Food taken from outside is not hygienic. It contains lots of spices and oils and it causes harm to the digestive system. Taking milk and curd is good for health. Avoid taking tea and curries. Give him more vegetables and rice. Try to do daily exercise and walk. Drink more water. Avoid taking oily, fried, and outside food.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

We are on a trip and it is impossible for us to take homemade food for a few days. What are the precautions to be taken?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

When you are outside and if you are unable to take homemade food, you can take light foods like curd rice and drink more water. You can eat bananas and try to take small meals at regular intervals. If there is vomiting, you can give him a tablet Oflox oz (Ofloxacin and Ornidazole) twice daily for three days and give him ORS (oral rehydration solution).

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
