Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Why is the HbA1c still 5.7 even if the average glucose was 95, according to the CGM? Metformin was also taken for two years and given for weight loss off-label. A1c has been at 5.7 for the past four years. Trying to comprehend since, in her words, the present doctor does not know much about this - stressed out and flabby Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Do not worry. Hemoglobin A1C or HbA1c is raised due to obesity only. How much metformin are you taking? Do you have regular periods? Do you have a thyroid?

Revert with the answer to assist further.

Thank you and take care.

Regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Metformin is 1000 mg/day. At the highest dose of 2000 mg/day for the first year, I lost 30 lbs. Weight has held there for the past year and a half despite modifications. The cycle is regular but heavy and painful. Gynecologist has offered ablation at this point because nothing seems to improve them. Thyroid has not been checked since 2019 because it was "in the normal range," so they do not want to retest. I have attached all recent test results. I had asked my doctor about the injectable medications being discussed so much lately. I had hoped they might help me continue shedding pounds so I could regain a healthier weight. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

I have reviewed your reports (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). Please do the thyroid test. Common treatments for overweight and obesity include losing weight through healthy eating, being more physically active, and making other changes. However, please consult a doctor, discuss with them, and start taking the medications with their consent.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.

Regards.
