Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am around 20 years old and have started getting hair loss in the past few months and do not know why I am having this as my father and grandfather still have hairs on their head, so it is not by my genes, and I am currently not taking any medication. Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. Hair loss is caused by multiple factors, most commonly due to hormonal fluctuations like androgen imbalances and genetic factors where hair loss from the maternal end have MPHL (male pattern hair loss) is most likely to be genetically transmitted. On the other hand, hair loss is not genetically transmitted from the father's side of the family. Other reasons include vitamin deficiencies, zinc and iron deficiencies, climatic factors, dietary changes, and lifestyle factors, including using of commercial oils, shampoos, hair smoothening or straightening products and frequent coloring of hair with strong products, stressful events like chicken pox, COVID-19 infections or any infections or surgical history. I would suggest the following. Take Tablet Follihair (combination of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, biotin, and natural extract) once daily after food for two months at night. Ega scalp hair tonic may be used on your scalp. Apply and massage twice daily after cleaning and drying your scalp well. Blood tests like complete blood count, serum ferritin, serum iron, serum zinc, vitamin B12, vitamin D3, thyroid function tests, and DHEAS (dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate). These blood tests would help rule out any deficiencies, following which the medications may be started. The blood tests should be taken before starting the above-mentioned tablet since they may show changes in the actual result. In case of dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis, KZ plus lotion (Ketoconazole and Zinc Pyrithione) twice a week may be used, which is diluted in a 1:1 ratio with water. Make sure to have a balanced diet, including fruits and vegetables, including green leafy vegetables. PRP (platelet-rich plasma) mesotherapy procedures for the scalp where plasma rich in platelets would be extracted from a small amount of blood drawn from your vein and is injected superficially into your scalp every 15 days (if done along with mesotherapy which is vitamin injection done similar to PRP treatments) for one month and done in sessions of six. For the procedure, direct consultation with a dermatologist is advised. It will help with hair growth and reduce hair fall. Avoid stress and consider the above-mentioned procedures for boosting hair growth. I hope this helps. Thank you.
