Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had an HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) 4th-generation test after 90 days and it was negative. But now I got rashes on my legs, sore throat, and some tingling sensation in the tongue which are symptoms associated with HIV. Is it possible for an HIV infected to get a negative 4th generation test after 90 days? When is 4th generation 100 percent conclusive? Please help.

Thank you

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. The symptoms you are having could be due to multiple reasons and cannot be attributed to HIV. In fact, there are no HIV-specific symptoms or signs which can lead to the diagnosis of HIV. A sore throat can occur due to any viral infection and the same is true for a rash which could be even allergic. You can send me a picture of the rash to make a diagnosis. 99.9 percent of the people who are infected with HIV develop a positive antibody response at three months. There are rare instances of late seroconversion at six months are also reported in the literature. Please get your HIV test repeated at six months of last exposure.

I hope this helps you.

Regards
