Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had sex with a stranger six years ago whose HIV status was negative for three months. I am not sure of my current status, but I had vaginal sex with her using a condom, and oral sex without a condom. Moreover, I had a small cut at the bottom of my penis where the condom was not covered. Is there any chance that I will get HIV because of this? The moment I see the symptoms and try to read about HIV, I get afraid, and I get a fever. Is there any treatment available in the initial stages like this for HIV?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

If the person is negative for HIV (human immunodeficiency virus), then there is no chance of transmission of HIV. The chances of transmission of HIV by protected intercourse are nil. It is very unlikely to be transmitted with the given description. The symptoms are nonspecific and do not suggest HIV. Fever can occur due to simple infections, too. You can get her tested now to allay fears. You can go for HIV antibody tests as a baseline and later after three months to have conclusive results.

Hope this has addressed your query.

Kind regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks a lot for the reply.

Does oral sex without a condom not cause HIV? Since I had a small cut at the bottom of my penis, I was worrying a lot whether it got through it. Do you recommend me to undergo PEP treatment?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your query and concern.

The chances of transmission of HIV by oral sex are almost nil unless there are bleeding wounds in both. It is very unlikely with the given description. I do not see the need for PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis). Moreover, PEP should be initiated before three days of exposure.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
