Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a concern regarding something I saw while supermarket shopping yesterday. In the refrigerator, I chose a chicken carton with sharp edges that cut me and caused me to bleed. It was kept in a frigid refrigerator. A drug addict stood in front of me and chose from the same location. I have heard that HIV may live in temperatures as low as 39 degrees Fahrenheit. This fridge contained less than 39 degrees Fahrenheit; I fear that the IV drug user who came before me had also been injured by the carton and left some blood on it.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I looked through the picture (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). The probability of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) transmission by the previously mentioned actions is, in my opinion is nil. The likelihood of an HIV patient's contaminated blood touching the same site of contact is virtually nonexistent. You would have known if it had a bloody tint. Therefore, hypothetically, there is a chance that HIV may be transmitted as it can live longer at colder temperatures. Practically, the danger seems to be close to zero, from my perspective. If the risk conduct is restricted to this, I do not see why you should be concerned about HIV. I do not think that testing for HIV is necessary. Please wash the region twice to three times daily with warm water. You can use an over-the-counter antibiotic cream. You might visit your doctor for additional testing and evaluation if you are very nervous.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I could not determine if there was blood in the cartoon since it was hidden deep inside the refrigerator. I grabbed it even though I could not see it, and it stung. Anyways, since there is no chance of HIV infection, why should I clean the region with hot ester and antibiotics? In my scenario, do you consider this risk to be nil? Can I let it go and not put myself to the test?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

To stop any further bacterial infections, clean the area and use an antibiotic cream. Just as a measure of safety. The risk of HIV transmission is nonexistent in my opinion. You do not need to be concerned about HIV, in my opinion. HIV testing is not necessary in my opinion.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
