Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a bad case of hives all over my body. The itching is intense at night. It has been three weeks, and the hives have spread nearly all over my body. I am taking the tablets Zyrtec and Zantac twice a day. They do not help with itching but seem to help with hives from showing. When will these hives pass?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

In my opinion, you need to evaluate whether you noticed hives after any of the following products

1. Any drugs like antibiotics or painkillers.

2. Milk, egg, and protein or any dairy products.

3. After getting cold and coughing.

4. After doing exercise.

Hives or urticaria have numerous causes, and it is very important to find which one is the cause (though sometimes it is hard to find, and sometimes no causes are found). The best treatment is the prevention of the cause. In my opinion, continue your medicines for three more weeks and apply five percent Permethrin lotion on your whole body at night. Once application only for one night. Wash your clothes properly. Sometimes scabies is also present with urticaria.

Hope this helps.

Thanks and take care.
