Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 36-year-old, and I have OCD which is why my doctor prescribed Cipralex with 20 mg Inderal to be taken twice a day. But my weight has increased a lot even though I do not eat a lot. I have been told it is because Inderal decreases metabolism, which is why the body does not burn as many calories. Can I take a smaller dosage of Inderal? Can I lose weight even while taking beta blockers? Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for reaching out to us. I understand your worries, but there is no need to worry. You will be fine. Inderal can cause an increase in weight. It would help if you discussed with your attending physician the possibility of switching to other classes of beta blockers like Bisoprolol (Bisoprolol Fumarate). It is a good alternative and does not have any contraindications. It has worked in previous times with my patients with similar problems. You can lose weight while taking beta blockers, but you will still need to watch your diet and exercise frequently. I hope this helps. Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
