Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My daughter is 20 years old and seems to have low iron. My friend said it is called iron-deficiency anemia. What does this mean for her health? How can we treat it? Are there foods she should eat, or does she need medicine? Her periods are regular. However, she appears pale and tired all the time. Any advice on helping her get better would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read the query, and I can understand your concern.

Iron deficiency is a type of anemia in which there is low iron due to hemoglobin levels being low as well in the body. Due to that, your daughter’s body is pale. It is treated with iron tablets or supplements. A decent diet will help, so I suggest you give her green vegetables like spinach, cucumber, or any green vegetable available. She can eat fruits like pomegranate and papaya. Injectable iron can be administered if her levels are extreme; if not, iron pills can be used. So check levels and then start treatment accordingly. You do not have to worry; it is nothing serious, and it can be treated easily.

I hope this will help you.

Thank you.
