Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 45 years old, and my RBC count is 3.17 million per cubic millimeters, hemoglobin is 4.5 gm/dl, and PCV is 16.9 %. WBC count, platelets, urea, uric acid, and creatinine are normal. I have taken the hemoglobin electrophoresis test also. In that Hb (adult) is 98.7 %, Hb A2 is 1.3 %. They stated that RBCs are microcytic hypochromic with anisopoikilocytosis with target cells, elliptocytes, and tear drop cells. The laboratory interpreted that there is decreased HbA2 due to iron deficiency.

Kindly correlate with serum ferritin levels. My mean corpuscular volume is 53.4 fl, mean corpuscular hemoglobin is 14.1 pg. And my ferritin level is damn low. My doctor is asking for the opinion of a hematologist.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

It could be iron deficiency anemia. But I need to know the cause of the iron deficiency.

It would be best if you replace iron either orally or intravenously. But if you are having symptoms of anemia, then I would suggest you get a blood transfusion done in at least two packs.

And also upload all the laboratory results.

I hope this information will help you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
