Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

When is the best time to take a pregnancy test? I took a pregnancy test on the 24th day after sex. I had a heavy period before 10 days but was not sure if the heavy blood with clots was just from the IUD placement.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. According to your statement, you want to know the best time to take a pregnancy test. You should wait until the week after your missed period to take a pregnancy test for the perfect result. A good time to do the test is in the morning when you wake up.

It is important to know about the last menstrual period to calculate the safe and dangerous periods. If you have had sex on safe periods, then there is no chance of getting pregnant. So need to do a test for pregnancy.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I had sex on the last day of my period and then had another period on the 13th day. Then there is no need to take a pregnancy test? I was unsure if the blood was my withdrawal bleeding from the IUD placement since the bleeding lasted a week and extremely heavy. I took a test 24 days after sex, and it was negative.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If your last menstrual cycle's last day was 25 th, then 3rd to 10th of next month your dangerous periods. During those periods, unprotected sexual activities can make someone pregnant.

Ninth day from your last day of the last menstrual period to the 16th day, total of seven days are dangerous periods. During this period, someone can become pregnant from unprotected sexual activities. The rest of the days are safe period. No woman can become pregnant during a safe period.

You have mentioned here that you had heavy bleeding between two periods. Irregular periods, heavy or scanty bleeding, spotting, early or late period, etc., are the common side effects of IUD (intrauterine devices). If you want, you can repeat a test for pregnancy after seven days of the next regular menstrual cycle.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
