I have dryness and itching in the penile head with tiny pinkish bumps. Can it be an allergic reaction?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 28-year-old male, unmarried. I felt itching and slight dryness on and around my penis head two weeks back. Now when you noticed closely, it has tiny pinkish bumps. Sometimes it itches, but not all the time. There is no pain or burning. I had protected intercourse one year ago.

However, I sometimes masturbate over my trousers. Can it be an allergic reaction? I can send pictures for better diagnosis. I am getting married in three weeks time and worried about the condition. Your response will be highly appreciable.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have reviewed the picture and the video (attachment removed to protect patient identity) you attached and based on your history and symptoms, this looks just like an irritation possibly due to dryness. I am not considering any STD (sexually transmitted disease) at this point because your last sexual contact was a year ago and it was protected one so the risk is low. You also do not have other symptoms like ulceration, discharge, burning sensation or pain. I recommend that you use a penile moisturizer to moisturize the skin of your penis.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Can you please recommend some penile moisturizer? I tried moisturizing it using coconut oil or a normal moisturizer. But if you could suggest some, it would be great.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The penile skin is sensitive and not the same as any other part of our body. An appropriate moisturizer should be used. You may use any brand available in the pharmacy and in the market. However, I recommend you choose the mild, hypoallergenic, and approved by dermatologist and urologist.
