Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I feel lonely most of the time though I have a boyfriend. I feel he does not even care for my feelings or emotions. So I keep on fighting with him. For the past few months, we are just fighting and whatever he does I am not happy. I have lost interest in most things. I keep on crying and keep on fighting for silly matters. I used to love studying but now I am way far from books. I have also gone through a divorce as I was in a toxic relationship. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

You may have major depressive disorder due to relationship issues. There is non-pharmacological management for your depression and you should try to follow the below guidelines to deal with it. It will help you.

1. You should exercise daily for 30 to 45 minutes like at least going for a walk.

2. You should meditate for 20 minutes daily, just sit in one place in a comfortable position and try to concentrate on your normal breathing. Do not stop or force yourself to stop your thoughts, just let them be. It will help you to relax.

3. You should eat healthy home-cooked foods, avoid junk foods, and drink enough water.

4. You should spend quality time with friends and family daily or do video calls if you are living away from your family.

5. You should spend time on creative hobbies like reading good books, writing journals, painting, drawing, and learning new skills, language, or musical instruments.

6. You should sleep for 7 to 8 hours daily.

7. You must avoid tobacco, alcohol, or any substance abuse.

8. Live your life, do not just spend it.

9. Be bold and confident.

Stop fighting with your boyfriend. Stop expecting anything from anyone. If you do not love him then move on from him.

If you still have symptoms that persist after following the advice for 4 to 6 weeks, then you need to start medications for a short duration.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please, let me know if you want some help.

Thank you.
