Can painless lumps on the anus be due to colon or rectal polyps?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have concerns surrounding my colon and rectum. I have had little lumps on my anus for four years. I think it is colon or rectal polyps. Since they have not gone away for so many years, I should ask a professional if they could be harmful or if I can continue to ignore them. They cause me no discomfort, except when I poop, which is difficult sometimes as it feels like the skin is tearing, and every two weeks or so, there will be very obvious blood in the toilet as well. Again, no discomfort or pain from the bleeding, but while pooping, it can be sensitive. Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and am sorry for such discomfort. You have mentioned swelling around the anus. It could be an external hemorrhoid, in my opinion. It cannot be colon or rectal polyps as they project in the lumen of the colon or rectum and do not project outside the anus. Thank you.
