Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am married and have a child of two years. I am five weeks pregnant now and I want to abort. Is it possible with pills? Or should I go for surgical abortion?

Answered by Dr. Sameer Kumar

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern here completely.

As you mentioned that you already have a child of two years, I would suggest you to actually continue the pregnancy if you have a future plan of having more than one kid. This is the best time and as it has happened naturally so you should reconsider. As far as your query is concerned, if this is an unwanted pregnancy then yes it can be aborted medically with medicines till seven weeks gestation under a gynecologist's supervision. Before that you need to localize the pregnancy inside uterus and rule out ectopic pregnancy as this is important. Medicines work only on intrauterine pregnancy and ectopic shall require a different management altogether.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

This is really an unwanted pregnancy. My first pregnancy was cesarean. Is there any problem with pills?

Answered by Dr. Sameer Kumar

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

In that case medicines should not be taken as they would increase the uterine contractions and that would not be good for the C-section scar. So, if you want to get an abortion done then please opt for an ultrasound guided dilatation and curettage (D and C) to be on a safer side.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
