Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am on Lithium 600 mg per day and Quetiapine 300 mg per day. I would like to know what kind of food, beverages and medicines I should avoid.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com. Medications for depression (antidepressant drugs) interact with Lithium. Do not take Lithium if you are taking medications for depression. Some of these medications include SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) like Fluoxetine and others in the same group, Sertraline, Amitriptyline, Clomipramine, Imipramine, MAO - monoamine oxidase inhibitors like Phenelzine, Tranylcypromine and others from the same group could interact. Dextromethorphan (a cough syrup) interacts with Lithium. Medications for high blood pressure such as ACE - angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors, diuretics and calcium channel blockers. Medications for seizure and NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) like Diclofenac sodium, Ibuprofen and others from the same group can interact. Avoid eating turkey, alcohol and cheese since it may interact. Regarding Quetiapine; the SSRI and SNRI (serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors) can interact with it. Lithium and Quetiapine is a good combination.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
