Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My LMP test came positive and so I used MTP kit. Over last six days, I am using lever. I was bleeding for around six days and now again with a gap of five days I am bleeding with blood lumps. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your medical history and understand your concern.

Have you got an ultrasound of pelvic done to check for any retained products of conception? Is there any foul smelling discharge or fever associated with it?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

After using MTP kit, bleeding was there for six days with blood clots. But, now there is bleeding associated with large lumps. Kindly let me know, how long the bleeding will continue?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Usage of medical termination of pregnancy - MTP kit leads to heavy bleeding unless the product is removed for two to three days. Since in this case there is bleeding again, I would like to know, have you have got an ultrasound of pelvic done in order to check for any residual product left behind Spotting type of bleeding will occur for a period of eight to ten days.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I did not get an ultrasound yet. I do not know whether the product is still present inside or not. But, to my knowledge Misoprostol will get dissolve within two to three hours of usage. In the first six days of bleeding there has been discharge of large blood clots.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

As an ultrasound scan will help in giving a clear view of the uterus, it is a must after taking abortion pills for ten days. Heavy bleeding can also occur due to hormonal changes. Kindly get an ultrasound scan done to check if any residue is left behind in the uterus.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My ultrasound showed a small product left inside. I am asked to use two Misoprostol tablets vaginally and take Amoxicillin-Potassium Clavulanate for a period of ten days. I was advised that the uterus should get empty within a month's time and ultrasound to be repeated once the period gets stopped. Is that fine?

Please suggest me if anything else is required.

Answered by Dr. Richa Agarwal

Hi.

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, he is right. Just follow his advice and repeat the ultrasound scan once your period is over.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

With MTP intake, heavy bleeding has started and it is irregular till now. I have got my reports attached. What can be the next treatment?

Please guide.

Answered by Dr. Richa Agarwal

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I went through the reports (attachment removed to protect patient identity) and found that still some products are retained inside the uterus. There is bleeding because of those retained products. Do consult a gynecologist and get the D and C (dilation and curettage) surgical procedure done and get the uterus cleaned. Take few antibiotics and vitamin supplement such as iron and calcium.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Can I take another two doses of tablet Misoprostol before going into the surgical procedure? Please suggest.

Answered by Dr. Richa Agarwal

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You can try two doses of Misoprostol but in my opinion you should go for direct D and C, surgical procedure.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
