Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a period cycle of 40 days. Last month I got my period on the sixteenth day and ended on the twentieth. However, this month I got spotting which started on the sixth day and ended on the tenth. Now I have got spotting again after nine days, which is supposed to be my period date. I am scared. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your case, and I understand your concern.

The normal menstrual cycle ranges from 21 to 35 days, and PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) is very common, especially in the young population. Menstrual irregularities, acne and excessive weight gain are commonly seen in PCOS. Also, irregular menses and intermenstrual spotting could be seen in thyroid disorders. So it would be best to rule out that before going towards any treatment. I suggest you get the USG(ultrasonogram) pelvis scan, thyroid profile, and CBC (complete blood count). There is no need to scare of these intermenstrual spotting and irregular periods; medical treatments can easily correct these problems.

I hope this helps.
