Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 25 years old male. I went to a dermatologist, and he examined my condition. The doctor told me that I have sebaceous nevi of the scalp. But I am unable to agree with it. I have read that sebaceous nevi are hairless. Please suggest.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through the query and examined your given picture (attachment removed to protect patient identity). Please say whether you have this problem from birth. You are right, most of the sebaceous nevus are hairless. But nevus which reaches the hair-bearing areas of the scalp also extends to involve follicles. Technically, it is a hair follicle tumor, as sebaceous glands are present adjacent to hair follicles.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Yes, it is present from birth. I am worried. I have itching over it, and I went to the dermatologist again. He told me that it gets irritated from seborrheic dermatitis and gave me antibiotic cream for it. I am worried and went to another dermatologist. He also said me the same thing.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

As it is present from birth, it is sebaceous nevus only. Itching occurs due to seborrhoeic dermatitis. You can use Salisia Kt 2 % shampoo (Ketoconazole).

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
