Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My girlfriend is 18 years old. She cannot stop washing her hands after taking food, coming back from outside, and even doing simple daily chores. Once she started washing her hands, she used to do it in a row. She dislikes going outside as she thinks that she will become dirty after getting exposed to the outside environment. She carries a bag full of wet disinfectant wipes. I can see some sudden mood changes in her. I have tried taking her to a psychiatrist to resolve these problems. But she is not willing to see a psychiatrist and becomes upset. Is it OCD?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

I can understand your concern. Yes, you are right. She is suffering from OCD. You can not manage her at home without medications. She has to take medication to deal with her behaviors and symptoms. If she takes or starts medications early, they can be cured and controlled easily. Otherwise, it will take a long time. She needs to take medications, which will take years if she is irregular. OCD is a chronic disorder, and it takes a long time management to deal with it.

I hope this has helped. Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
