Patient's Query

Dear doctor,

I am worried about a red spot on the roof of my mouth. There is no pain. I saw some red dots on the roof of my mouth about two weeks ago and some days later it was less visible, but today I found it more prominent. The previous night I used the fan the whole night and it got cold and in the morning, I felt some nasal congestion and itching on the roof of the mouth. Also, I have some uncommon feeling in the throat and acid reflux was diagnosed by the ENT and was prescribed Pantoprazole, Domperidone, Montelukast and Fexofenadine. I am currently taking these medications. I have attached some image of the site. How can it be reduced and what is the reason for this? Is this serious?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

There is nothing much to worry about. I have seen the pictures (attachment removed to protect patient identity) and such small red spots could appear due to a number of reasons. The management depends on knowing the cause for it. It could be due to taking some hot food, any hard food hit in the roof of the mouth, reduced hemoglobin levels sometimes, an allergic reaction or due to smoking (if you have the habit). As the ENT doctor suggested, it could be a case of acid reflux. So, there are a wide number of possible reasons. The medication you are using is fine. They should resolve in about 10 days time. Visit your dentist for a clinical observation and treatment plan.
