Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I noticed a bump on the gums in the back of my bottom front teeth. It is painless and has been there for a few weeks now. What could it be?

Please give your suggestions.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

Bumps or swelling on the gums could be due to,

1. Common mouth ulcer or canker sore.

2. Gum abscess.

3. Tooth abscess.

4. Gingivitis.

5. Accidental toothbrush injury or food debris lodgement.

So, I suggest that if it is a common canker sore, it will resolve on its own within a couple of weeks. If the swelling is reddish and involves the gums edge and tartar (hardened yellow food deposit), that could be gingivitis or gingival abscess. A scaling and polishing procedure should be done to remove the tartar, after which the gingivitis or the gum abscess will resolve. If any of your bottom front teeth have deep decay, that swelling could be a dental or a tooth abscess. Please visit your dentist and get it examined to find what is causing your gum swelling.

I hope this helps you out.

Take care.
