Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My mother is 66 years old, weighed 70 kg, and has a height of 5.1 feet. She has knee osteoarthritis, for which she is taking Freeflex forte thrice daily. She has osteoporosis and takes Supracal pro-1 (calcium citrate, D3, and bone minerals). She has trigeminal neuralgia and takes Lyrica 75 mg, Tegretol CR 400mg, and Symbol 30 once daily. For her urinary incontinence, she takes Tropan 5 mg and Cranpac. I learned of a biocell collagen product from chicken sternal cartilage, which contains collagen type 2. Is this product safe? Are there any side effects? Can my mother take it for her osteoarthritis? If so, what dose? Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

It would be best if you started biocell 2 grams per day or jointing one sachet daily for 90 days. Long-term studies are not available to prove the side effects of this molecule. Some of my patients get swelling over the joint as its animal source. Some antigenic reactions can be expected from its animal source, but long-term studies are unavailable. Hyaluronic acid injections have local side effects like edema. Oral Hyaluronic acid side effects need long-term study. To date, no significant side effects have been documented.

I hope you find it helpful.

Kind regards.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

What kind of antigenic reaction could it be, and what would be the symptoms? In case of antigenic response, what should I do to manage the reaction, or will discontinuing the capsule be sufficient? If swelling in that joint occurs, what we should do is discontinue. Will the swelling of the joint subside gradually, or is there anything I should do? Please clarify and guide me on what I should do in case of any adverse reaction. Is it necessary to keep any medicine in hand to manage any antigenic response? Please help.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The antigenic reaction is usually in the form of skin rash, swelling, itching, or respiratory difficulty. Tablet Defcort (Deflazacort) 6 mg or injection of Dexamethasone should be handy in an antigenic reaction. Swelling may usually subside after a few days; rest may be sufficient to reduce swelling. Discontinue medicine if you come across an antigenic reaction.

I hope you find it helpful.

Kind regards.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My mother has previously taken Decdan for some other ailment. Still, till now, she has not taken Deflazocort, so I want to clarify a doubt if a reaction occurs at night time and Deflazacort is not available and injection could not be given, so can I give Dexamethasone tablet as an antidote for the antigenic response? Will it take care of the allergy? So please advise whether I can use a Dexamethasone tablet for antigenic allergy. Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It would be helpful to take a tablet of Dexamethasone for antigenic reaction. The newer Deflazacort has fewer side effects, but you can also take a tablet of Dexamethasone and consult your doctor in case of any reaction.

I hope you find it helpful.

Kind regards.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
