How to get the menstrual cycle regularized with PCOS/PMOS?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have PCOS/PMOS, and my periods have been very irregular for the past few months. I had heavy periods in, then scanty bleeding. I had very light brownish bleeding that lasted up to 15 days. According to my app, I have been tracking my period and am supposed to get it. I have also put on a lot of weight in the past month because of work, so I think that might be a factor. Right now, I am experiencing jelly-like cloudy discharge and slight cramps here and there. How can I regularise my periods?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understand your concern.

Yes, weight gain is one of the factors affecting the menstrual cycle. In patients with PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome)/PMOS (polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome), weight loss alone can sometimes regularize the cycle. So, I suggest you exercise at least 30 minutes daily and make some dietary modifications(low sugar and low fat). If you are sexually active, rule out pregnancy and wait for the next period, and in the next cycle, I would like you to get some blood tests. Cramps can be a premenstrual sign,so no need to do anything right now. We can watch it.

I hope I have answered your query.
