Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a red mark on my penis skin. I have shared the images. Should I be concerned about the same?

Answered by Dr. Raveendran S R

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

I checked the image (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). If you have unprotected sex, we must consider sexually transmitted infections. If not, it can be a simple bacterial infection. I suggest you use the ointment T-bact (Mupirocin and Bromelain) twice a day for five days (consult a specialist doctor, discuss with them and take medications with their consent). If there is itching, we need to think of a fungal infection. I suggest you use the ointment Candid-B (Beclomethasone and Clotrimazole) for itching. Make sure you wash your genitals twice a day and use normal water. I suggest you undergo the following tests:

  1. Treponema pallidum hemagglutination (TPHA).
  2. HPV (human papillomavirus) DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test.
  3. Herpes simplex virus (HSV) one and two tests.
  4. Herpes simplex virus(HSV) one and two IgM (immunoglobulin M) tests.
  5. Chlamydia trachomatis IgG (immunoglobluin G) test.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

How many days after unprotected sex can something like this show up?

Answered by Dr. Raveendran S R

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It depends on the type of infection. You can see an immediate effect if it is a fungal or bacterial infection. If it is a viral infection, it will take weeks to months.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
