Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

I think I got strongyloidiasis but with pinworm infection. It has spread all over my body, even in my eyes. I stumbled upon the first movement in my penis six months ago and ignored it as I thought it was a hallucination. Then two months ago, I was again cleaning my penis, and there was a movement. I decided to visit a doctor, and everything was under control from the hysteria that came after one day. Mistakenly I sprayed many pesticides and then slept as I was odorless. I woke up feeling like a bag full of worms. I started taking Albendazole, and my feet got swollen one month ago. All tests were normal. So I told my parents that it was because of this worm in the penis, but nobody believed me. I tried many tests and went to several doctors. They focused more on my leg swelling and told me to go to a psychiatrist. Each time I miss Albendazole, I feel movement everywhere. I got fed up, did many search, and also took medicine Ivermectin. Albendazole was effective against worms, but the number was increasing, and I am delaying Ivermectin by two hours. Please help.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I have reviewed your case history in detail, and I agree you might have worms or a parasitic infection, to begin with. The medicine you were using is usually very effective against worms, Albendazole. There is no need to take Albendazole repeatedly, and it works well with a small short course as given by your doctor over there. When you self-medicate, thinking that you are killing more worms, there are side effects of these drugs too, it is good if you have stopped Albendazole. Now come back to Ivermectin, but use it only on a doctor's prescription when a doctor can physically examine you in detail, have some blood tests, and see evidence of raised specific types of blood cells in your blood report. I strongly recommend against self-medication, it will cause more side effects which can worsen your clinical condition.

I hope this information will help.

Thanks.
