Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
Last week, my hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) level was 89.0 mIU/mL. The doctor I consulted said that I need to repeat the test after one week to determine whether the pregnancy is viable. Today, I checked again, and the level has increased to 3276 mIU/mL.
Is the pregnancy viable now?
I am 20 days delayed from my expected period, and I already have a child who is six years old.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
The pregnancy is tested by beta hCG (beta human chorionic gonadotropin), and it is usually increased only during that period. A level above 1500 mIU/mL is said to show a visible pregnancy by transvaginal ultrasound.
Beta hCG levels double in 48 hours and are measured again in 48 hours. If it doubles, then it indicates a likely pregnancy. In the era of ultrasound, a level of more than 3000 IU (international units) should reveal a pregnancy. Please proceed with this to obtain a definitive diagnosis.
I hope I have answered your question.

Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
I was asked to undergo a double Doppler test, and I have just received the result. It states that there is an increased risk, and I am worried.
Please review it and explain the terms to me.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
The particular test tells you about the risk of having Down syndrome (a genetic condition caused by an extra copy of chromosome 21) that a blood test can detect. A cutoff below one in 250 is considered high risk.
In your case, it is one in two; that is, there is a 50 percent chance that the baby is affected. You must get an amniocentesis (a prenatal diagnostic procedure); that is, tapping water from around the baby and testing its chromosomes. It will confirm whether the baby has the disease. If the baby is affected by Down syndrome, you will be given the option of termination. Kindly do it.
I hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
I am currently in my 20th week of pregnancy. I have a frequent urge to use the bathroom. My gynecologist asked me to get a urine culture done and said that I need to meet her only if there is an infection. I did not understand from the report whether there is an infection or not, as it is not explicitly mentioned.
Please review the report and let me know if you find any signs of infection.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
There is an infection. Any infection during pregnancy needs treatment. Your doctor has done the right thing by sending the urine for culture.
Ask your doctor if you can take 100 mg of Martifur (Nitrofurantoin) tablets three times daily. Drink plenty of fluids, including cranberry juice. Take Citralka (Disodium hydrogen citrate) syrup three times daily with water.
I hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
My due date is on the 21st of the coming fourth month. I last met my doctor a few weeks ago. She checked me using ultrasound, said that everything was fine, and asked me to meet her again this month for the next regular checkup.
This morning, I noticed a white creamy secretion on my panties. The white secretion has been occurring frequently, but today it was slightly more.
Is this normal?
Should I meet my doctor?
The movement of the baby is as usual. There is no bad smell or itching in my vaginal area.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,

It is better to get yourself checked internally by your gynecologist and see if there is an infection.

Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
I had bariatric surgery, specifically a gastric sleeve, about two years ago. Because of this, I am unable to eat more than four mouthfuls at a time, so I eat every two hours. My last period date was eight months ago. Next month, my weight was 74.7 kg (approximately 165 lbs). Currently, my weight is 78.9 kg (approximately 174 lbs).
Is this a healthy weight gain?
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
As far as your baby's growth being appropriate, I would not be worried. Look at its growth in the scans, and if it is normal according to your doctor, stay happy. The procedure of sleeve surgery leaves only a part of your stomach, so you may face trouble with eating.
I hope I have answered your question.

Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
I have two questions. I am in my eighth month of pregnancy.
I feel pressure in my lower abdomen when I am in an upright position. Is this normal?
I am supposed to meet my doctor this coming week. Should I see her before that?
I read online that consuming high-sodium foods can lead to preeclampsia. Today, I ate high-sodium food: pork bakwa and three 125 g sachets of cured pork bakwa. Can consuming too much sodium in one night cause preeclampsia?
I did not have any hypertension or complications during my first pregnancy seven years ago, and so far my blood pressure has been normal. Is this okay?
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Pressure in the lower abdomen, if associated with pain or vaginal leakage, is a cause for concern. Otherwise, it should be fine.
Overnight preeclampsia (a serious pregnancy complication characterized by new-onset high blood pressure and signs of organ damage) cannot occur. It is a process that involves multiple organs and takes time to develop. The relationship between sodium and preeclampsia is not firmly established. You should also try to avoid consuming such highly salty foods in the future.
I hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
I am in my 35th week of pregnancy. While opening the car door today, it got a little stuck, and while pulling it with force, it hit the right side of my tummy.
Is this okay, or should I be worried?
Is my baby safe?
I am feeling anxious.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Unless there is pain, bleeding, or vaginal leakage, there should not be any cause for worry. Based on your symptoms, it should be okay. If the pain persists, visit your gynecologist.
I hope I have answered your question.

Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
First and foremost, thank you for replying promptly whenever I sent any query. I delivered a healthy baby girl. Thank you, doctor, for the online medical support whenever I panicked about anything. I have a couple of doubts:
I underwent sterilization via bilateral fallopian tube ring application. Is it 100 percent safe?
Is there any chance of getting pregnant again? I really hope not.
When can I have sex again?
How long should I wait after the surgery before resuming sexual activity?
I apply soap to my vaginal area quite often, which has made it quite dry. Is there anything I can use instead of soap to clean the vaginal area?
When can I start exercising after a C-section?
Should I lie down most of the time and take rest?
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
No contraceptive method is 100 percent effective. There is a two to three percent chance of failure.
After childbirth, it is better to allow a gap of about two months before resuming sexual activity. This allows time for the tissues to return to their pre-pregnancy state.
You can use a vaginal wash or intimate wash around the vaginal area during bathing to clean yourself.
You can start simple exercises after one month, but avoid heavy exercise or weight lifting for at least six months, as you have undergone a cesarean section.
I hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thank you.
